Salamander Fabrications is a sheet metal fabricator based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

We offer a full design service, in addition to CNC punching, laser cutting, CNC bending, welding and fabrication of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Plus, we can finish the job with powder coating, assembly and integration.

The company was founded by Huddersfield-born Brian Haskell in 1968 and had a modest beginning with just three employees working from a premises not much bigger than a modern double garage.

Salamander’s first big contract saw the company tasked with supplying a mobile canteen for the Derbyshire police force. From here, we continued to supply catering equipment predominantly. However, as the business and client base grew, we’ve gone on to sub-contract and supply to a broad range of sectors and businesses.

Key milestones

  • 1968 – Salamander Fabrications was founded working out of an old mill building
  • 1977 – We moved into a purpose-built manufacturing unit on a site in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield
  • 1982 - Automatic indexing punch is installed
  • 1984 - Current managing director Michael Haskell starts as an apprentice
  • 1993 - First CNC press brake is installed
  • 1994 - Second CNC punching machine is installed
  • 1994 - Radan machine programming CAD CAM software is installed
  • 2000 - SOLIDWORKS 3D drawing package is installed
  • 2007 - Radan E2i manufacturing system is installed
  • 2012 - Michael Haskell becomes managing director
  • 2012 - New management structure is created
  • 2013 - Factory extension and flatbed fiber laser is installed
  • 2014 - New shift patterns introduced for additional capacity
  • 2015 - Fully automated conveyor fed powder coating line installed
  • 2018 - Accredited to ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001
  • 2019 - Successfully migrated to International Standard EN ISO 45001:2018 for Health and safety
